A successful attempt — special issues exclusively designed and published by  Journal of Tropical Oceanography

Abstract:

A comprehensive summary is presented for 2 special editions exclusively designed and published by Journal of Tropical Oceanography since 2008. The purpose and scientific significance of publishing the special issues are discussed in perspectives of scientific research and science/technology periodicals. Topic selection, invitation for contributions, and editing process, the three of the most important steps of publishing a special issue are analyzed and explained. The central role and duties of the editors are emphasized in the process of topic selection/planning, and the editing itself. Also summarized are the good effects of dissemination of the two special issues since they were published.
