Abstract: The method of volume emptying is applied in an in situ on-line measuring device (shortened as MD) of gas seeping flux at marine seeping sites, which is used to measure gas flux at marine seep sites. The MD mainly consists of a gas flux measuring system, a data storage-and-control system, and data extraction, analysis and processing software. A gas flux measuring system is used to measure gas seeping flux. A data storage-and-control system is used to store data and control valve opening and closing automatically. Data extraction, analysis and processing software is used to analyze and process stored data and to set run duration of MD. The parameters of MD are obtained through experimental tests. Its flow velocity ranges from 0 to 15300 mL?min?1 and its measuring error is about±1%. This study provides a new technology and approach for measurement of gas seeping flux at marine seep sites.
