Abstract:

Serum levels of gonadotropin (GtH), testosterone (T), 11-ketotestosterone (11-KT), and estradiol-17β (E2) were assessed by radioimmunoassay during induction of sexual maturation of male marbled eel (Anguilla marmorata) by Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) treatment. Morphological alterations of the liver and GtH cell of Anguilla marmorata were investigated by means of light and electron microscopy. The testis Gonadosome Index (GSI) was 0.17±0.06% in the control group and their serum GtH and 11-KT levels were low, the T level was lower than 0.1 ng (the range of kit was 0.1―20ng•mL?1); Serum GtH, T, 11-KT levels increased rapidly in the operated group after the third injection of HCG, when the GSI of testis was 7.0±0.03%. After the spermiation, the GtH, T and 11-KT levels decreased a little, but still higher than the levels of the control group. Serum E2 levels decreased gradually as HCG treatment progressed, from 2.36 ng/ml of the control group to 0.83 ng/ml of the spermiation eels. In the hepat of the control group, abundant glycongen and little lipid droplets were obversived, the nuclear was in the middle of the cell. In contrast, in the hepat of the spermiation eel, the lipid droplets accu-mulated, which lead to the closing of nuclear to the cell membrane.
